IN-FIRE-NET Program - Polish cadet in McKinney Fire Department, USA

On 03-30 September 2014 Cadet. Dariusz Bilski took part in four-week internship program organized within Polish-American Project IN-FIRE-NET (International Fire & Rescue Network) in McKinney Fire Department, Texas. Cadet Bilski met the organizational structure of the local Fire Department. Participation in fire and rescue actions as an observer gave him a picture of the differences in tactics and organization of rescue operations.

During the four-week internship cadet Bilski collected experience inter alia by:

- Participation in prevention actions - inspections of public buildings, introduction with the Community Health Program or observed work local group of clowns-firefighters who teaching kids a basic safety tips

- has read with the rules of organization and functioning of disaster management at the local level ( visit in the local Crisis Management Center) and at the federal level (visit in the Federal Emergency Management Agency)

- A visit to Oklahoma State University, which educates the highest firefighting personnel in the departments of Emergency Management and Fire Safety let to explore and compare the difference with studies conduct in our school.

- Watching of exercises on training field in Training-Research Centre Dallas-Fort Worth Airport and training ground of Oklahoma State University was an great opportunity to see training facilities and principles of firefighters training,

- observing the work of the local air ambulance.

Cadet Bilski participated in cultural events directly related to the fire brigade as charity boxing gala of firefighters and police officers and 9/11 Stair Climb memorial in Dallas. Moreover within free time cadet Bilski visited the AT&T stadium, stadium of the Dallas Cowboys team, Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas, Fire Service Museum in Dallas and the Museum in Oklahoma City.

Four-week internship in McKinney Fire Department was a unique opportunity to get know and to compare the differences between Fire Services in Poland and the United States, and to know the reasons for these differences, which is the mentality of Americans and their approach to their service and security matter.
