XIII International Rescue Workshop ‘Fenix 2016’

Autor: RM

3rd year Polish students with 47 firefighters from 8 countries from  Belarus, Bulgaria, Estonia, France, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine and Germany (which participated in the exercises with their own fire engine) met for the  practical workshop on firefighting and rescue techniques. The workshop was observed by the Erasmus student from Turkey who is currently doing a semester in MSFS.

During the exercises the participants carried out activities connected with structural fires, chemical rescue, heavy technical rescue and high rope rescue. After each part of the exercises there was time for feedback and remarks what is a crucial part of the workshop.

Apart from the tasks prepared by the MSFS instructors, there were presentations of firefighting techniques in a container carried out by the French team and the German team showed their fire engine and equipment.

Also there were some presentations of unique firefighting devices made by the external companies. Extinguishing and cutting device “Cobra” deserved special attention as it allows to extinguish fire in a an enclosed spaces while leaving the firefighter completely safe.

On 8 of July Prorector - Deputy Commandant for Operations Col.  Stanislaw Sulenta met the leaders of international teams in order to exchange remarks concerning organizational and methodological aspects of the workshop and handed out diplomas and gifts for all participants.

The workshops proved to be a unique opportunity of cooperation between firefighters from different countries together. Despite tactical differences arising from different types of procedures as well as language barrier, actions were carried out very efficiently and effectively.

There was an exchange of experiences as well as a discussion of the differences in techniques and procedures present in each of the invited countries. The workshop also was a very good venue for networking and making friends among people which is definitely an added value.
