Description of learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to get the knowledge of safety engineering tools that are used in the design of fire safety systems

 

Content:

  • Hazard identification of the entity – the distribution intensity of the hazard and in the result characteristics of the safety system. Model and scientific theory. The environment inside the building during a fire. Physical modeling of fires with the Froude number. The theory of convection columns. Conservation of mass, component
  • and energy in the fire environment.
  • Analytical methods based on simplified models of fire. Calculation of the structure fires in case of small and large building spaces, adiabatic conditions and heat transfer.
  • Deterministic modeling (Zonal).
  • Distribution of models. Fire simulations programs. Examples of computer programs based on simple and complex models zone. capabilities and limitations of modeled zone.
  • The continuity equation, the Navier-Stokes equation of motion
  • and fluid energy equation. Turbulence modeling. Combustion and radiation submodels.
  • Deterministic modeling (field, CFD). CFD analysis. Examples of computer programs. Possibilities and limitations of field modeling.
  • The use of a deterministic mathematical modeling of fires (zonal and field) in identify the degree of people risk during fire. Examples of applications. Nonlinear fire modeling. Determination of critical areas due to an accumulation of heat, smoke and toxicity.
